With over 45 years of tireless service, Dr. Dinesh Gupta stands as a beacon of scientific excellence and national leadership in Indian geoscience. He is the only geoscientist in India to hold dual degrees in Geology and Geophysics, a distinction that fueled his transformative impact across mineral exploration, groundwater sustainability, and infrastructure geotechnics.

In 2018, he became the first-ever Director General of GSI having both Geology and Geophysics qualification and expertise, leading the institution into a new era of modernization. Under his stewardship, scientific rigor was institutionalized, and strategic reforms were implemented across India’s oldest Earth Science organization - Which was also reorganized by secretery GOI, MOM.
